Special exhibition "Viva Casanova! - Travelling in the intoxication of the Rococo"
Today, no one is better known for his seduction skills and womanising than Giacomo Casanova. Yet he has much more to tell. He was an academic, man of letters, philosopher, mystic and much more. Above all, however, he was a traveller: Casanova spent most of his life travelling between the courts of Europe. He documented his experiences in his memoirs more vividly and in greater detail than anyone else. You can almost smell, taste and hear the 18th century in it.
To mark Casanova's 300th birthday, the special exhibition goes back in time and shows what it was like to travel through Europe by coach in the Rococo period.
What had to be taken into account when planning the journey, what were the roads and routes like, where could you stay overnight, what means of transport were available and what inconveniences did travellers have to endure? Casanova's travel routes, experiences at court, exciting adventures, anecdotes to make you smile and prominent encounters tell of his adventurous life in the frenzy of the Rococo period.
